e-Mail Program Step-by-Step Walkthrough
AOL
  1. Method One:
    1. Open AOL
    2. Open the e-mail that you wish to check the mail header information by double-clicking it
    3. Under the To: line, there should be a "Sent from the Internet (Details)" line
    4. Single, left-click the word "Details" to open an Internet Information window
    5. This will display the full e-mail header information
AOL Communicator
  1. Method One:
    1. Open the AOL Communicator software
    2. Open the e-mail in question by double-clicking it
    3. Press the [Ctrl]+[U] key combination to display a Message Source window which will reveal of all of the e-mail's header information
CompuServe
  1. Method One:
    1. Open CompuServe
    2. Open the e-mail that you wish to check the mail header information by double-clicking it
    3. Scroll to the bottom of the e-mail message
    4. The complete e-mail header information is automatically displayed
Eudora Pro
  1. Method One:
    1. Open Eudora Pro
    2. Open the e-mail that you wish to check the mail header information by double-clicking it
    3. Click on the "Blah Blah Blah" button in the top, left corner of the toolbar
    4. The complete e-mail header information will appear
Entourage X
  1. Method One:
    1. Open the Entourage X e-mail client
    2. Open the e-mail message in question
    3. Select the "View" menu option and then the "Internet Headers" menu option (a check mark will appear to the left of the words Internet Headers if done correctly)
    4. The e-mail header information will not show at the top of the e-mail (above the body, but below the From, Date, To, and Subject information)
    5. If you move the mouse so that it turns into a double-shaped arrow (over the horizontal bars below the Subject: line of the e-mail), you can hold the mouse button to drag the bar down so that the entire header can be inspected.
Forte Agent
  1. Method One:
    1. Open the Forte Agent e-mail client
    2. Navigate to the e-mail in question and single, right-click on it
    3. From the drop-down menu that appears, move your mouse cursor down to "Show All Header Fields" and single, left-click it
    4. The chosen e-mail will now display the full header information
Gmail
(Google Webmail)
  1. Method One:
    1. Log into the Gmail account
    2. Open the e-mail message in question
    3. To the right of the sender's e-mail message will be a "show details" hyperlink and to the right of that is a "Reply" button (i.e., Reply is the default option at least as of 10/15/2007). To the right of the word "Reply" is a pipe mark (i.e., | ) and a down arrow. Single, left-click the down arrow to display a small window of options.
    4. Single, left-click the words "Show original"
    5. The e-mail headers, in their entirety, will now be displayed in a new window
Hotmail
(MSN/Live Webmail)
  1. Method One:
    1. Log into your Hotmail account
    2. Single, right-click the e-mail that you wish to inspect
    3. Single, left-click the "View Source" option
    4. The e-mail will now be displayed in its native HTML-based format with the e-mail header information at the very top.
IncrediMail
  1. Method One:
    1. Open the IncrediMail software
    2. Navigate to the e-mail in question
    3. Single, right-click on the e-mail and move your mouse cursor down to the "Properties..." option
    4. In the Properties window that opens, single, left-click the "Details" tab and the full header information will be displayed
Microsoft Outlook
2000, 2002, XP (2003)
  1. Method One:
    1. Open the Microsoft Outlook software
    2. Navigate to the e-mail in question and double-click to open it
    3. Single, left-click "View" from the e-mail's window menu
    4. Move the cursor down to "Options..." and single, left-click it
    5. The selected e-mail header information will be at the bottom of the window to the left of "Internet headers:"

2007
  1. Method One:
    1. Open Microsoft Outlook
    2. Open the e-mail that you wish to check the mail header information by double-clicking it
    3. Looking at the Office 2007 horizontal "ribbon" menu, move your cusor to the "Options" square
    4. Underneath the three icons for Categorize, Followup, & Mark as Unread, there is the word "Options" and to the right of it is a small three-sided square with a diagonal arrow in it
    5. Hovering over this miniature icon produces a popup with the wording "Message Options"
    6. Single, left-click the miniature icon
    7. A "Message Options" window will display
    8. The selected e-mail header information will be at the bottom of the window to the left of "Internet headers:"
  2. Method Two:
    1. Open Microsoft Outlook
    2. Single, left-click the folder holding the email that you wish to examine (i.e., Inbox, Outbox, Junk E-mail, etc.)
    3. Single, right-click the e-mail that you wish to examine
    4. Single, left-click "Message Options" at the bottom of the pop-up menu
    5. The selected e-mail header information will be at the bottom of the window to the left of "Internet headers:"
Microsoft Outlook
Express
v5.0, v5.5, v6
  1. Method One:
    1. Open Microsoft Outlook Express
    2. Single, left-click the e-mail of interest, but do not open it
    3. Press the [Ctrl]+[F3] key combination to open a message source window with all code
  2. Method Two:
    1. Open Microsoft Outlook Express
    2. Single, left-click the e-mail of interest, but do not open it
    3. Press the [Alt]+[Enter] key combination to display the e-mail's property window
    4. Single, left-click the "Details" tab for a look at the Internet headers
    5. Additionally, you can click the "Message Source..." button to view the same window as Method One instructs
  3. Alternate Methods:
    1. Single, right-clicking an e-mail allows a user to choose the Properties option at the bottom of the drop-down window which does the same thing as [Alt]+[Enter]
    2. Single, left-clicking an e-mail to highlight it, followed by File > Properties also does the same thing
Microsoft Windows

  1. Method One:
    1. Open Microsoft Windows Mail
    2. Open the e-mail that you wish to check the mail header information by double-clicking it
    3. Single, left-click File and then select Properties
    4. Select the "Details" tab and you'll be able to view the e-mail header information

    1. Open Microsoft Windows Mail
    2. Open the e-mail that you wish to check the mail header information by double, left-clicking it
    3. Press the key combination of [Alt]+[Enter]
    4. Select the "Details" tab and you'll be able to view the e-mail header information
Mozilla Thunderbird
  1. Method One:
    1. Open Mozilla Thunderbird
    2. On the menu toolbar, navigate to "View," then "Headers" and single, left-click the "All" option
    3. All e-mail headers will appear at the top of e-mails
  2. Method Two:
    1. Opem Mozilla Thunderbird
    2. Navigate to and open the e-mail in question by double, left-clicking it
    3. Press the [Ctrl]+[U] key combination to open a view-source window which will display all of the e-mail's header information
Netscape Browser
  1. Method One:
    1. Open the Netscape Browser Software
    2. Click Options, then "Show All Headers"
    3. All e-mail headers will now appear when you open an e-mail
Netscape
Communicator v4.77
  1. Method One:
    1. Open the Netscape Communicator Software
    2. Navigate to and open the e-mail message in question
    3. Single, left-click View, hover over Headers, and then single, left-click All
    4. The full headers should now display for the open e-mail
Netscape Mail v7.1
  1. Method One:
    1. Open the Netscape Mail Software
    2. Navigate to the e-mail in question and select it
    3. Press the [Ctrl]+[U] key combination to open the e-mail in a new window that will also display all of the e-mail's header information
Netscape News Reader
  1. Method One:
    1. Open the Netscape News Reader Software
    2. Navigate to the News item in question and open it
    3. Single, left-click View and then select "Document Source."
    4. The full headers should now display
Netscape Webmail
  1. Method One:
    1. Log into the Netscape Webmail account in question
    2. Open the e-mail message in question by single, left-clicking it
    3. On the To: line, look all of the way to the right at the small yellow up arrow that reads "View all headers" when hovered over
    4. Single, left-click it and full header information will be revealed
Opera Browser,
Mail Client
  1. Method One:
    1. Open the Opera Internet Browser/Mail software
    2. NOTE: If there is no e-mail account configured, there will NOT be a "Mail" button between the Widgets & the Tools buttons on the menu bar.
    3. Single, left-click the Mail button on the top menu bar and select Read Mail
    4. Single, right-click the e-mail that you want to inspect and choose the "View all headers & message" option at the very bottom of the drop-down menu
    5. All e-mail headers will appear at the top of the selected e-mail which be default is in the bottom view pane of the software
Pegasus
  1. Method One:
    1. Start the Pegasus e-mail client
    2. Open the message in question
    3. Press the [Ctrl]+[H] key combination to see the full e-mail headers
Yahoo! Webmail
  1. Method One:
    1. Login to the Yahoo! e-mail account in question
    2. Single, left-click the "Options" hyperlink text from the top menu
    3. Single, left-click the "General Preferences" hyperlink text
    4. Scroll down to the Messages section of the page and place a dot in the second radio button option that reads "Show all headers on incoming messages"
    5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and single, left-click the "Save" button
    6. Navigate to and open the e-mail message in question
    7. The full e-mail header information will now be displaye
